What to Do Before and After the Storm

SANDBAGS

To assist citizens, sandbags are available at:

  • James Messer Park South, 2830 Jackson Bluff Road (City)
  • Winthrop Park, 1601 Mitchell Avenue) (City)
  • Lawrence-Gregory Community Center, 1115 Dade Street (City)
  • Jack McLean Community Center, 700 Paul Russell Road (City)
  • Tekesta Park, at Tekesta Drive and Deer Lake Road in Killearn Lakes (County)
  • Apalachee Regional Park (Landfill), 7550 Apalachee Parkway (County)
  • J. Lee Vause, 6024 Old Bainbridge Road (County)
  • At the intersection of Oak Ridge at Ranchero roads (County)

Sandbags are limited to 25 bags per household (20 at County sites). Citizens need to bring shovels to fill bags themselves. Crews will monitor and provide additional sand and bags as needed. The site will be open until the storm threat has passed and it is determined there is no longer a need.

For seniors and those with special needs, assistance with filling sandbags will be provided at the Messer Park South location.

SHELTERS

The following shelter locations will open tomorrow at noon:

General Population

Special Needs

All shelters have the capability of taking pets, but Chiles High School is the only general shelter that has staff for pets. Those going to a shelter should bring blankets, pillows, snacks, water, and entertainment. Meals will likely not be provided.

AFTER THE STORM

Ice and water services will be available at local fire stations as warranted. The City will also have the following community centers available as comfort stations during normal operating hours (daytime and evenings, provided the location has power and is accessible):

  • Lawrence-Gregory Community Center — 1115 Dade St.
  • Sue McCollum Community Center, Lafayette Park — 501 Ingleside Avenue
